Wanted: A Cow
Here's the deal:

One of our board members purchased one of the "art cows" that were all over Portland a few years back. The cow (known as "Cowmedia dell'Arte") was "donated" to Oregon Ballet Theatre and used in a comedic interpretation of The Nutcracker but the cow has gone missing...for several years. Now the board member wants her cow back and no one seems to know where it is. OBT has a new artistic director and almost an entirely new staff. If any of the previous staff members know where it is, they aren't talkin' so we're at a loss.

Rumor has it, the cow is somewhere at the Oregon coast in someone's field. I posted about this in damnportlanders about 2 months ago and received a reply that said I might find it somewhere along Highway 101 near Tillamook. My boss and I took a drive out there one weekend without success.

I know this whole situation is very amusing but seriously, if you can help me out, I'll be a hero among my co-workers. And so I pose this question to you in desperation: Have you seen this cow?!

Serenity opens in CC tomorrow!
Chances are, if you know me, you've heard me ranting about this movie called Serenity.

This is the poster in the Crescent City Cinemas hallway!

To make a long, interesting story short, back in 2002 Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) proposed a show called Firefly. FOX bought it. Then they scrapped the pilot, aired the episodes out of order, bumped the schedule around for sports, and cancelled it after only 14 episodes were shot.

Then the word started getting around that hey, it was a damn good show. And as of now, the collected 14 episodes that were shot is #7 in Amazon's DVD sales. So Universal picked up Joss's idea of a movie based on the show, and Serenity was born.

Basic premise: 500 years in the future. We used up Earth and left for another solar system, where we terraformed planets and moons and settled in. No aliens. Just people, living, out in the black. The show, and movie, focus around the crew of a Firefly-class transport called Serenity. Former rebels, a pilot, a mercenary, a mechanic, a courtesan, a preacher, a mercenary...and the two fugitives they take in. Simon, a doctor, and his sister, River. Who happens to be both incredibly insane and a genius. See The Beginner's Guide to Firefly for more.

Sound interesting? Come and see it within the first week - the more profits it earns, the more likely Universal will approve a sequal. And we, the fans, will do anything to make that happen...including spamming unrelated communities in an obnoxious way. We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

Also, if anyone is interested in receiving a copy of the Firefly sampler CD...I should be getting mine and be able to distribute soon.

Well...we, SONIC DEMENTIA that is, have finally been able to work something out where we can play in Brookings. If anyone is interested in a good hard-rockin' afternoon full of rock music, we will be playing at Azalea Park this Sunday at the Elks BBQ. There will be other bands, including the winner of this year's Talent Contest at the high school, but we will be on stage about 5pm. Tell your friends and lets have a good time!!

possible expulsions for stupid stuff
Okay. Let me know if anyone gets pissed for asking. Who are the three guys that got into trouble over the whole air gun thing this week? Well, I want to know who two are. I found out that one of them is
my cousin. The Fam is shittin' bricks over that one. If any of you know who I am, then you could figure out which one is my cousin.

You know...I was shopping around down main st.(Highway 101 for all who were confused) the other day and there are actually some cool stores once you pass the Greatful Head and see those cool artsy shops...they actually have some cool art pieces.

My mom and dad used to have an art studio (Vision Quest Studios) but we had to sell it and now it's like a stamp store or something...but some people in Brookings are actually pretty artsy.

Now if we just kill all the hicks, we can survive here and turn this place into a mini ashland...YAY!!!!

New in town
I'm moving from Tallahassee, FL to Gold Beach, but Gold Beach hasn't hopped on the LJ community bandwagon yet, so I thought I'd ask you all:

Is there a place nearby where a redneck girl can line dance on the weekends? Not like, a dance studio, or anything like that. Just a little honky tonk somewhere where I can get lost in a sea of cowboy hats. The country music and dancing is one of the things I'll miss most about the South.

Thanks for any info or leads on the subject!

Slow Children
If anyone's interested in going to the Slow Children concert at the Redwood on Monday, there will be a chance to get free tickets on KURY radio (95.3) from noon to 1pm. I'm not sure when it will be exactly, but I got the head's up for that hour.

7% of America.
I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 today.

I strongly encourage anyone - no matter whether you like Bush or hate him, are a Democrat or Republican, or whether you can stand Michael Moore, to go see it. It's not a campaign film - it's a documentary. That's not to say that it is unbiased, or is devoid of propaganda, but it gives you the facts.

Even if you hate Michael Moore, or think Bush is the best thing since Nixon, go see this film.

After all, what do you have to fear from the truth?

A list of factual backups is here.

I'm stuck in Crescent City, Ca for the summer... I grew up here, went off to my first year of college, and am returning to Rohnert Park in late August.
Anyway, when I get too bored of this place, which is usually every few days, I drive to Brookings. I love it there because the weather is almost always better, gas is -cheaper-, and no sales tax :)

Quick question for a possible listening audience

I don't know if anybody is still checking this board or not but I'll post anyway. BTW, I am a BHHS alumnus (1992). Anyway, I found this site thru a Google search and have a quick question:

If Sonic Dementia were to ever play anywhere in Brookings again, where would be the best place to play, who would show up and when???

Just curious....tryin' to make plans. ;) Cheers!
